IMPORTANT MORGAN ANNOUNCEMENTS

April 18, 2014

To the families of our 6th and 7th grade students,

I want to share with you about two situations that have come up this week to help clarify information.

On Wednesday morning, a conflict between two students occurred in a classroom with a substitute teacher. Both students were sent to the office and the situation was investigated. One of the students became very upset and in an effort to minimize traffic and avoid escalation, I asked that teachers keep students in the classroom. We did not have a lockdown, but took precautionary measures in case the situation escalated. Thankfully, the situation was resolved within a short period of time and we avoided any further disruption to the school day.

This morning while parents were dropping their children off for school, a parent was exercising her first amendment rights on city property across from the school. Her message was that her daughter was sexually harassed and that the boy was not disciplined. I will always work to maintain the highest level of confidentiality for any student and will not give specific information about disciplinary action. I can assure you that any time a report is made about an incident of harassment, intimidation, or bullying we will investigate the situation quickly and will make sure appropriate action is taken.

Safety at school is one of our highest priorities. School safety includes being safe from harassment, intimidation, or bullying. Please talk with your child about the importance of reporting situations that are upsetting to them so we can work together to put a stop to them.

Our students continue to be a source of pride and joy at school and the great work they are doing each and every day is evident in their individual and collective accomplishments. I look forward to continuing our partnership in supporting your children as they work to succeed academically and beyond.

Sincerely,

Michelle Bibich

Principal
